1Password Recovery
How to regain access to 1Password when you see a “Transfer encryption key” prompt, can’t sign in, or are locked out.
When You Might Need This
- You see a “Transfer encryption key” prompt in the 1Password app
- The sign-in address has changed (e.g., after a team address update)
- You can’t sign in with your usual method
- You’re locked out of your account
User Self-Service
If Your App Still Opens
- Open the 1Password app and unlock it
- The app should recognize the address change automatically
- If prompted, approve the change
- You’re done
If You See “Transfer Encryption Key”
- Open the 1Password app
- Choose Sign in (not “Create account”)
- Enter the sign-in address:
oarcinc.1password.com - Sign in with Google SSO (click “Sign in with SSO” if available)
- If SSO is not available, enter your
@hamcation.comemail and your account password - Your vaults and data will appear — nothing is lost
Download a New Emergency Kit
After recovering access, download a fresh Emergency Kit:
- Sign in at oarcinc.1password.com
- Click your name → Get Emergency Kit
- Save it securely (print or save to a secure location — not in 1Password)
Admin Recovery
If a user is completely locked out and self-service doesn’t work:
- Sign in to oarcinc.1password.com as admin
- Go to People
- Find the locked-out user
- Click their name → Recover Account
- Follow the recovery prompts
- The user receives a recovery email with instructions to regain access
For SSO users: They may need their original account password or Secret Key as a one-time fallback after recovery. Once re-linked, SSO will work normally again.
